Frostbite Regatta
November 19, 2011
The chance of frostbite for the sailing crews was slim, as the three races of the 2011 Frostbite Reagatta were sailed in the Cape Fear off Southport under excellent conditions for November.
All seven boats that entered the Regatta finished, although Outrageous took time off during Race One to return to dock for some emergency repairs.
It was One, Two, Three for the top boats. Kellie, with Ed Pierce at the helm, Lucky Tiger II with Ed Schrum, and Kalayaan with Kevin Ramsey each won one race, placed second in one race, and were third in one race. This left the three top boats with identical scores in the series. Fortunately, the Racing Rules of Sailing cover this rare occurrence, and the final standings put Kellie ahead of Lucky Tiger II, with Kalayaan placing third.
Coming in fourth was Sierra II with Joe Kinzer, fifth was Naos with Sam Johnston, sixth was Outrageous with Rich Bandera, and seventh was Wind Lass with Peter Hamilton.
The sailors, crew and others enjoyed the final after race party of the year at Old American Fish Company.
