Some of this season's final (and largest) Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraising events will be hosted over the next two weekends by the Cape Fear Yacht Club. This Saturday, May 24th, there will be a fundraiser yard sale at Boat House Marine, 3974 Old Bridge Road (opposite the Brunswick County Airport ). On Sunday the 25th there will be a boater's "Poker Run" with prizes for the boat which collects the best poker hand (non-boaters can purchase a blind hand). Next weekend features the North Carolina Leukemia Cup Regatta for sailboats, with a skippers meeting and picnic on Friday, racing on Saturday and Sunday, and an awards picnic on Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening features a dinner and charity auction at the CFYC club house. The featured speaker at the dinner will be America 's Cup sailor and ESPN sailing commentator Gary Jobson, who is a Leukemia survivor himself. All events are open to the public.
Boat registration includes passes to all events at the club house. Non-boat owners can purchase a pass for the club house activities, including the Saturday dinner, for $35 per person. Passes are available at the Southport Visitor's Center, the Southport/Oak Island Chamber of Commerce, Baked With Love restaurant, and the Ricky Evans gallery. Alternatively, passes may be reserved by emailing the number of passes with names to cfyclcr@aol.com. These passes can be paid for and picked up at the club house door the day of the event. For further information or to register a boat for the poker run or the regatta, click on the above link
