We had a wonderful time at this years Springs Fever Regatta even though we had a light turnout from contestants. Lori Bates and Kim Sniffen did a wonderful job of coordinating the event again this year. What I found most exciting was the turnout of Yacht Club members doing whatever was needed to pull off the event.
The wind on the lake looked promising in the morning with a steady breze from the North northeast at 12 mph. By the start of the race at noon the breeze became light and began to shift to the Northeast. By the afternoon the winds were gusty at 10 to 12 with a shift. This was watched and well played by the King of the Lake for a Day - Ricky Evans.
Ricky found his groove on the north shore of the lake and led the rest of us around the course. Larry Mass, Henry Bridgers and Bonnie Allison all gave him a good run for his money. By the fourth race the remaining contestants all shared a good 15 seconds in first place as we headed for the leeward mark.
Race Committee gave us 4 good starts, with one mulligan when the anchor slipped before the start of the third race, resulting in a general recall. The first 2 races were windward leeward courses with a length of about 1 1/2 miles. The third and fourth races were run as windward-leeward-lindward with a leeward finish about 2 miles in length.
Lori provided food and trophies and coordinated registration. Kim provided the PRO contestant briefing and coordinated the on-the-water efforts of the chase boats. Both club power boats and two additional boats provided us good coverage on the lake. Mary Green from BSL Parks and Recreation department coordinted with the BSL police to make sure access from parking to the launch area was well controlled. Steve Gordy and his wife came out with their boat to provide additional coverage.
Race results were as follows:
Sunfish Midget
1st place Sarah and Anna Mass (sailed together in their first race)
Laser 4.7
1st place Bonnie Allison

1st place Ricky Evans
2nd place Larry Mass
