Captains’ Meeting: June 19th 1700-1800 at CFYC.

‍This is an OPEN Regatta, for Self-Righting Boats 20’ and up.  Scoring will use your provided PHRF Rating or if none is provided a PHRF Rating will be assigned based on the US Sailing PHRF Manual.  Boats not having a valid NC-PHRF Certificate shall be assigned a PHRF rating by the Race Committee.

‍All competing boats must comply with US Sailing and US Coast Guard safety standards and regulations and have an operational marine VHF radio on board.

This race will start at sunrise and contestants shall be prepared to finish in nighttime conditions.  Captains are requested to prepare their boats using the guidance provided in SER-2025.0-Monohull-Nearshore and SER-2022.0-Multihull-Nearshore for complete guidance on boat preparations.  ‍ ‍

The race will start in the river Channel past Bald Head at 0600 on Saturday, 6/20/2026.  Time limit expires on 0000 on Sunday 6/21/2026.‍‍ ‍

Contestants will start by crossing the start/finish line between Cape Fear River Channel Markers 9 and 10.  Racers will be encouraged to leave the river channel past these marks and proceed to the Tower.  ‍ ‍‍

A Race Committee Boat will be on station at the starting line to support he start from 0530 to 0630 on 6/20/2026.

‍ Boats will keep in touch through the race on Channel 78 reporting in 2 hour intervals beginning at 0900.  Racers will be assigned a “race buddy” to communicate with at the Captains’ Meeting.

Boats completing the course will record the time of crossing the finish line between CF9 and CF10.  Record your finish by snapping a photo of either 9 or 10 off the stern quarter of the vessel.  The photo time stamp will be your official finish time.  Upon completing the course, radio RC on channel 78.  This information will be shared ashore at American Fish.‍

Captain’s Meeting: Saturday prior to race starts (by fleet)

The Ed Harper Memorial Regatta welcomes Optimist, Sunfish and 420 sailors of all ages.

It is designed to be a “first regatta” for youth from summer sail camp. However, local experienced sailors are encouraged to join in the fun while they assist and teach new sailors.

This is the perfect regatta to learn the racing ropes.
