About Youth Sailing and Our Golf Tournament

This annual golf tournament is the primary funding source for the Cape Fear Yacht Club's non-profit summer Youth Sailing program. Famous for the prime rib dinner and yacht club hospitality, this event is not to be missed by area golfers. Always held on Columbus Day (October 13th, 2025), the area provides beautiful weather and the Oak Island Country Club the perfect golf course by the sea.

The roots of the Cape Fear Yacht Club are firmly planted in the organization's Youth Sailing Program. Largely the brain child of three early members (Mark Tallon, Billy Coleman and Henry Bridgers) who felt strongly that in order to have an active sailing community, one must grow future sailors! These three salty sailors found the boats, the students and the bullhorn for that first year and the club hasn't looked back since.

The club partners with the Town of Oak Island's Park and Recreation Department's summer camp program to handle registration and logistics while the yacht club provides volunteers and equipment. The proceeds from our golf tourney provide resources needed to maintain existing boats and expand the fleet as it is needed.

Your sponsorship, donations and participation enable 90 children to experience the thrill of captaining their own vessel while learning about wind, tides and the concepts behind the magic. Many, many, many thanks to all of you! If you know a business or individual that may be interested in sponsoring this experiential and empowering camp, please send us an email.
